Heart Sounds International’s trips are typically limited to music and recording. ThisRead more …

Heading To the Philippines Soon

Heart Sounds has been partnering with YWAM Surigao since 2007. In 2014, HSI and YWAM provided a worship workshop for church worship teams in Surigao del Norte. The 2017 workshop is an expansion of that workshop. On this particular trip, HSI is collaborating with a visual artist from OM Arts as well as local artists to provide a comprehensive arts team for the workshop. I am thrilled to be going onRead more …

Of Waffles and Chocolate

These two delectable snacks are as good in Belgium as they are plentiful. Also plentiful in Belgium is the spiritual need. But OM Belgium has seen the evangelical presence in their town of Zaventem grow from zero to at least four churches since they began ministry 50 years ago!    I had the opportunity to travelRead more …

Worship and Missions: Why the Silo?

The co-founder of Heart Sounds International and my esteemed teammate, Frank Fortunato, recently wrote a 2-part article in celebration of HSI’s 15th anniversary. In part 2, he begins by saying, It was an epochal moment that day in the late nineties, in Pretoria, South Africa. When it was my turn I gave a brief reportRead more …

Living Out of a Place of Rest, part 1

Apr 15, 2015 | Posted by in discipleship, Jesus, knowing God, OM Arts | 1

Back in January, OM Arts began its seventh year. We began talking about the biblical concept of the Sabbath—Shmita—year. In Leviticus 25, the LORD instituted the seventh year as a year of rest or release (“shmita”) for the land. The Israelites were not to sow, prune, or harvest, but to allow the land to rest. If they askedRead more …

Italy & the UK, part tre (three): Incarnate

May 12, 2014 | Posted by in arts, Italy, OM Arts | 0

I visited Italy by invitation of OM Arts to check out their School of Mission, Incarnate. I wasn’t disappointed. The ten students took three classes: God’s Story (theology and the arts), Your Story (an intense discipleship course) and 10,000 Stories (art and mission). Each week there was a focus on a different spiritual discipline, whichRead more …

Italy and the UK, part due (two): Forterocca

May 6, 2014 | Posted by in Church History, Italy, mission, OM Arts | 1

The name Forterocca means “mighty fortress” and comes from the Martin Luther song “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” OM Italy built this conference center in the tiny community of Bobbio Pellice, Italy, because of the rich history of the Waldensian church.  I introduced the Waldensians back in this post. As visitors to Forterocca and theRead more …
